This is an awesome spread that’s as surprising as it is delicious!! The original recipe calls for fresh cranberries, but since their season is so short, one spring I decided to try the same thing with canned berries – no difference in the end result at all (but a HUGE difference in the price)!! A friend of my daughter’s brought it along for Thanksgiving one year. She had gotten the recipe from her mom, but where she got it, I have no idea….! All we know is that it’s great and everybody who tries it agrees!! Sure hope you do too!! Total cost: $2.25 (+ crackers = $4.25) Cost per serving: $0.29 (+ crackers = $0.54) This is the price using canned berries - fresh berries and sugar would raise the cost substantially....

preparation

1.  If using fresh berries, pick them over, discarding any that are getting soft. Remove any stems that might be left.

2.  Put cranberries, sugar and ½ the jalapenos in a blender jar and process until you can't see the jalapeno anymore.

3.  If using canned berries, process just the canned cranberries and jalapeno - do NOT add sugar. It's already been added.

4.  Taste for heat - keep adding small amounts of jalapeno until it's as hot as you like it. The sweetness and heat complement each other. I like just enough heat to notice it, but not burn my tongue off!!

5.  Place the cream cheese on a plate or platter and pour some of the cranberry mixture over it. Serve with crackers and add more cranberries as needed.
