Original Recipe Yield: 2 servings (1 bowl)


  • 2 cups Raw rice
  • 2 big Lemon- lemons
  • 1 big Mango (raw) size(app 1 cup levelled)
  • * 2 Grated coconut tbsp.(optional)
  • 3 Oil tbsp.
  • 1 tsp Mustards seeds
  • 3 leaves Curry sprig
  • 6 cloves Garlic
  • 4 Dry red chillies broken
  • 1 tbsp Split urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Chana dal
  • 2 medium Onions Sliced no’s
  • 2 Green chilies no’s (Slit)
  • Hing-pinch
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt –as needed

Cook rice with water, 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp. oil. Remove to a wide bowl and spread to cool.Heat oil in a deep frying pan/wok, add mustard seed and the lentils.Fry on medium heat until they are slightly browned.


Now add green chillies, onion,cur leaves, dry red chillies and grated mangoes and fry again for 2-3 minutes.Switch off the flame and after few minutes,mix well the entire lemon juice and taste for salt .


Add the rice to the pan and mix well.


Let rest for an hour, allowing the rice to soak up all the flavors of mango, lemon and seasoning.This tangy and tasty Mango Lemon rice goes well with simple potato fry or with some potato chips.

Cooks' note:
Usage of raw mango has to be in correct proportion.
Lemon and mango are sour variety type.Adjust according to its taste.
