I learned cooking from my mom at a young age. She cooked for us every night and I still get very excited when I visit my home in Japan because I can eat her delicious meals. Now that I have kids, I wish to do the same for my own family. Having good food on the table always brings family together and easily invites conversation. As a mom, wife, and friend, I hope to create a cozy home atmosphere for my family and friends. Visit my Blog Just One Cook book

Before my children were old enough to enjoy real sushi, we usually ordered California roll for them instead. My son in particular loves avocado so it's one of his favorite sushi still. California roll is easy to prepare and a fun family project. Just remember to cover up the rice and ..
Japanese call Chicken Cacciatore "Chicken Tomato Ni (チキンのトマト煮)" and it is a pretty common home cooked meal in Japan. My kids love this dish and it’s one of our favorite comfort food. I am not sure if my recipe follows the authentic Italian method but I hope you enjoy it ..
Japanese love Purin (Flan/Creme Caramel) as a dessert. You can often find bakeries in Japan offering delicious Purin and each one has a slightly distinct taste. Typically creme caramel requires baking but this particular does not require baking at all!
Once in a while I enjoy cooking non-Japanese food, like paella. The recipe I share may not be labeled authentic because I use Japanese rice instead of Bomba or Calasparra rice. However this recipe allows me to prep the paella using the existing ingredients that are already in the pantry.

When I saw Deconstructed Eggplant Parmesan post at my blogger friend Kayo’s (Kay) site at My Home Cooked Meals, I immediately fell in love. I’ve never cooked Eggplant Parmesan before but I love eggplants, tomato sauce, and pasta, and her pictures made me super hungry. The result came out ..

Unlike Thai curry or Indian curry, the Japanese curry spice level is more mild and the sauce is quite thick. It’s always served with rice and the main ingredients include meat/seafood, onion, potatoes, and carrot. Each family has their own slightly different recipe as well. Most Japanese do not ..
I had some leftover leeks in my fridge one day when I saw the potato-leek gratin recipe shared by Shannon from Living with Umami. I love gratin and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore my culinary boundary. The gratin tasted fabulous and it's now one of my go-to recipes when I ..
I love Vietnamese cuisine. On most weekends, my family will eat Pho Noodle at least once for one of the meals. One of my favorite Vietnamese dish are rice paper rolls. When I lived in Oakland during the college years, I would often go to Le Cheval and enjoy their delicious rice paper rolls. This ..
Whenever we go to dim sum, my favorite part of the meal is definitely the desserts. When the desserts cart rolls by, I usually order egg tarts, mango pudding, and taro tapioca soup. Taro tapioca soup can be enjoyed both warm or cold and the mixture of taro and coconut milk is just perfect.
